Garrett David Millerick, Writer & Director
Garrett made his directing debut with a production of Ben Elton’s Popcorn at the 2004 Edinburgh Fringe. Popcorn’s short run proved a resounding success both critically and commercially, sell-out performances gaining five star reviews from leading critics at the festival. Following its run at the Edinburgh Fringe Popcorn enjoyed a sort tour of the South Coast.
Garrett was educated at the University of Southampton and graduated with a BA in Modern History and Political Science. Following his graduation Garrett founded Schadenfreude Productions Limited as a platform to develop film and theatre projects.
Garrett’s first production under the Schadenfreude banner was David Mamet’s Oleanna. The play ran for a total of 25 performances at the 2005 Edinburgh Fringe Festival at the historic Clerk Street Odeon.
In 2006 Schadenfreude returned to the Fringe with a production of Anthony Neilson’s Normal, the story of Peter Kurten: The Dusseldorf Ripper. The dark subject matter of the piece presented a significant challenge to the company, and was a departure from the work previously undertaken by the director. The play was awarded five-star reviews from The Scotsman and The British Theatre Guide and described in On Stage Scotland as a genuinely chilling production of an endlessly thought provoking play.
Following Normal, Garrett began post-production work on Basketcase his short film writing and directing debut. Basketcase was first shown at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival.
In late 2007 Garrett began work on Infamy: a cautionary tale of television in the 21st Century. The film marked Garrett’s first collaboration with producer Roopesh Parekh. Infamy stars Neil Newbon and Henrietta Clemett and is surrounded by an exceptional supporting cast which includes, Johnny Lyne Pirkis (Martin Scorsese’s Young Victoria), Johnathan Rhodes (Confetti), Kevin Eldon (Jam, I’m Alan Partridge, Brass Eye) and Carol Smille (Strictly Come Dancing, Changing Rooms, The Peoples Court).
2008 will see Garrett return to the Theatre with a production of David Mamet’s A Life in the Theatre at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
